We are getting close to launching our second WordPress Theme, called Cards. And as the name suggests, it is built around a whole lot of cards.
It is a theme created with news outlets and bloggers in mind, with a heavy emphasis on clearly distinctive categories.
Each category has a custom color combination associated with it, which you pick yourself. Maybe a sweet green wilderness combo for your travel musings, or a black and white combo for the ultimate clean design.
You choose, and your colors show your readers instantly which category they are about to enter into.
Distinctive category design calls for distinctive content
What we have visualized when we have built the theme, is a site that posts content with a few clearly defined categories, and each post goes in only one of these categories.
Distinctive category design calls for distinctive content for each category, and though we build it so that you can put each post in several categories, this is not the optimal use of the theme.
The idea comes from a lot of sources — a common example being news sites that use for example green for local news, red for international, yellow for sports pages, and so on. You always know where you are just by seeing the menu bar.
I am sure you have seen it, though you may not have thought about it before.
If you want to categorize more across categories, you can use tags for this, which is separate and much less defined.
Anything you want to add?
The design foundation is laid, and the programming is well underway, but we are more than ready to hear your feedback on what you’ve seen so far. Anything you feel would be absolutely necessary to have on such a WordPress theme?
